Retirement Plans
A retirement program designed to serve people and business goals.
A well-structured retirement plan can strengthen an organization’s total-rewards strategy while supporting employees as they prepare for the future. SilverStone helps employers evaluate, design, and manage retirement-plan options.
Plan types we design and manage
Retirement plan design is not one-size-fits-all. The right structure depends on company size, ownership goals, workforce demographics, and how much the employer wants to contribute versus how much flexibility employees need. We work through each of these variables before recommending a plan type.
401(k) Plans
The most widely used employer-sponsored retirement vehicle. Employees contribute pre-tax or Roth dollars; employers can match or make profit-sharing contributions. Highly flexible and scalable.
Safe Harbor 401(k)
A 401(k) structure with mandatory employer contributions that automatically satisfies IRS non-discrimination testing — allowing owners and highly compensated employees to maximize their own deferrals.
SIMPLE IRA
A lower-cost, lower-complexity option for employers with 100 or fewer employees. Easier to administer than a 401(k) with mandatory employer contributions and immediate vesting.
SEP IRA
Ideal for self-employed individuals and small business owners. Employer-only contributions up to 25% of compensation. Minimal administration and no annual filing requirements.
Defined Benefit / Pension Plans
Promises a specific monthly benefit at retirement based on salary and years of service. Allows significantly higher annual contributions than defined contribution plans — particularly valuable for older business owners.
Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation (NQDC)
A supplemental executive retirement arrangement outside of ERISA-qualified plans. Allows key employees to defer compensation beyond 401(k) limits, often funded with life insurance or annuities.
Who this is for
Employers competing for talent
A 401(k) with a meaningful employer match is one of the top three benefits candidates evaluate. Employers without one are at a structural disadvantage in recruiting.
Business owners maximizing personal savings
The right plan design — particularly a Safe Harbor or defined benefit structure — can allow an owner to shelter significantly more income than a standard 401(k) alone.
Companies with high employee turnover
Vesting schedules and plan design can be structured to reward tenure and reduce the cost of contributions to employees who leave early.
Executives needing supplemental retirement income
NQDC plans allow key employees to defer compensation beyond qualified plan limits, building a meaningful supplemental retirement benefit outside of ERISA constraints.
How SilverStone helps
We are a retirement plan advisor, not a recordkeeper or TPA — which means our job is to represent your interests. We benchmark your current plan against peers, identify design improvements, evaluate recordkeeper fees, and ensure the plan is working as hard for the owner as it is for the employees.
Plan benchmarking
We compare your current plan design, investment lineup, and fee structure against industry peers and identify where you are overpaying or underserving participants.
Design and structure
We recommend plan type, contribution structure, vesting schedule, and eligibility rules based on your workforce profile and ownership objectives.
Recordkeeper selection
We run a competitive RFP process among qualified recordkeepers and negotiate fees and service terms on your behalf.
Ongoing plan governance
We provide investment committee support, annual plan reviews, participant education, and fiduciary documentation to keep the plan compliant and competitive.
Is your retirement plan working as hard as you are?
Most employers haven't benchmarked their plan in years. A 30-minute conversation with SilverStone will tell you whether your plan design, fees, and investment lineup are where they should be.
